I don’t have a lot of time…should be in bed. But here are a couple of pictures from yesterday. It has been really nice to be at my parent’s house in California. The backyard is a pleasant place to hang out for all of us!

Tanner is catching on to baby sign language lately. He can do the following signs…
“More”
“Eat”
“All Done”
“Fan”
“Light”
“Nurse”
maybe “Dog”

And Tanner can “say” the following words…
“Ball”
“Bear”
“Mama”
“More”
“Dada”

Tanner’s favorite sign and word is “more”. He cracks up laughing sometimes and crinkles his nose and throws back his head. It is great.

Tanner had his first birthday last Saturday. We can hardly believe it has been a year since he came into our lives. We didn’t do a big traditional hawaiian style party- we just kept it simple. We gave Tanner a truck with “lego” blocks inside. He really likes to push the truck around. Grandma Sally and Grandpa Joe gave him this really great sand and water table. When he first saw the table you could tell he knew it was something extra special, he even started clapping. He likes to dig around in the sand and throw it everywhere. I think this toy will entertain him for many years. We love our sweet Tanner!

Michael Franti & Spearhead – Say Hey (I Love You) is a pretty cool song / music video. After listening to it I looked up the artist and learned he was a Davis High School graduate. Go Davis!

“Michael Franti was born in Oakland, California to an Irish-German-French mother and an African-American and Native American father. However, his mother made an adoption plan for him because she was afraid her family would not accept him. He was adopted by Carole Wisti and Charles Franti, a Finnish American couple in Oakland, who had three biological children and one other adopted African American son. Charles Franti was a professor in the department of epidemiology and preventive medicine of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and died in 2003. Michael’s four siblings are named Rebecca, Sara, Dan, and Matthew. Michael attended Davis Senior High School and graduated from the University of San Francisco.” – Wikipedia

While I have no pictures of my father and my father-in-law from yesterday, we were certainly thinking of them on Father’s day. We love you and wish we could be nearer. We are thankful for your influence and support in our lives!
Now I do have a picture of a father on Father’s day. Namely, Tanner’s father. Who would have guessed? We took a bunch of pictures in the backyard since the grass was looking so good (and it does look good doesn’t it? best on our block!) and so you have more pictures than just Tanner with his dad. Our friends took some pics of the three of us as well. Maybe I will post those later at some point. Now, I’d just like to point out the crazy shape of Tanner’s body in pic number 6…little babies are so flexible. Can you find Tanner giving you a thumbs up?

Do you like the new theme? Comment. At your convenience of course.

Uncle Lincoln gave a Tennis lesson to Ruby and she had a lot of fun. The boys played on the courts, and Tanner was walking around like crazy and hasn’t stopped since then. We also made hand tossed ice cream and it was delicious!

As Joe and Em were going to leave the kids were playing in the backyard blow up pool. They had a fun time splashing around, and they sure are cute. Tanner didn’t want to go in the water, but he hung out on the back porch exploring and watching the action. I’ll admit that we convinced the kids to spit water so we could take some fun pictures. Hopefully that doesn’t come back as a bad habit when Joe and Em return.

Yep, this is Tanner in anticipation of a great week of playing with his cousins. Joe, Em, RJ and JMax came to visit this weekend. Joe and Em are taking some R and R north of Daytona while RJ, JMax hang out with us. We are having a blast…more on that to come.

I have been thinking about Tanner’s diet lately. The Dr. says he dropped in weight percentile and wanted me to supplement with formula. Argh, but Tanner doesn’t dig formula, or vitamin drops. I guess I will just have to withstand the Dr.’s disappointment because it just isn’t happening. Anyways, Tanner never really got into the whole baby food diet. I think he has maybe eaten a handful of jars of baby food in his life. And he has NEVER eaten more than a couple of bites of rice cereal/baby oatmeal. I mostly attribute it to him wanting to eat by himself and he can’t use a spoon so he went right to finger foods.
The last couple of weeks this is virtually all I can get him to eat. BLUEBERRIES, WATERMELON, BANANA, CHEESE, BREAD, CEREAL PUFFS, and APPLESAUCE on occasion. I offer green beans, kidney beans, chicken, beef, cooked carrots, cooked regular and sweet potatoes, yogurt, oatmeal, scrambled/hard boiled egg, peas…but to no avail. Oh, he also will eat as many graham crackers or fruit loops as he is given but I save these for shopping or church.

On another note I decided that maybe he would like peas better if he got to have some fun with them. So for lunch today I put a bowl of frozen (mostly thawed) peas in front of him. He dumped them out on his tray and we put them back in the bowl together and he would throw some on the floor. Then he would squash one between his fingers and then he started feeding them to me. Eventually he would try putting one in his own mouth, only to cringe and pull it out of his mouth. I guess it is all progress!

Here are pictures from back in April of Tanner’s teeth (he has a second tooth on the top now) and some eating skills. I love how he opens his palm to get the food in, and if that doesn’t cut it he uses his forearm to finish the job. He also likes to take BIG bites but is pretty good about grabbing some of it out if he realizes he got too much. Like today he stuck a whole chunk of watermelon in his mouth and he could barely close it and juices were flowing out of his mouth as he was trying to chew it. It was so funny but I guess you had to be there to get the whole effect.
